Case Study Summary
Overview
Museum Guide: Berlin is a concept website and mobile app for iOS & Android, designed to give locals and visitors a single place to discover and explore all of Berlin’s museums, exhibitions, and audio guides.
The problem
Museum-goers in Berlin had no central resource for discovering what was on across the city. Visitors had to check each museum’s website individually, leading to missed exhibitions and frustration navigating information-heavy pages.

Research and discovery
User interviews surfaced two key pain points: difficulty keeping track of exhibitions across multiple sources, and overwhelming amounts of poorly organised information. Competitive analysis examined existing city guide apps, identifying gaps in museum-specific functionality.
Design process
The project followed a full UX process from empathy through to prototype: user interviews, market analysis, user flow mapping, low and mid-fidelity wireframes, and user preference testing. Preference testing informed the final font choice, with users favouring the secondary option over the original selection.
Key screens
The app covers splash and onboarding, login, home and search, category-filtered search results, and individual museum listings showing opening hours, peak times, supported languages, and audio guide downloads.
Retrospective
The project went well overall, with preference testing producing a clear result. The main constraint was limited time to explore tablet and desktop responsive layouts, with the focus kept on mobile screens throughout.
